Welland Municipal workers request “no-board” after negotiations with City stall
Local 1115 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 1115) has requested a “no-board” report from the Ministry of Labour, which will kick off a 17-day countdown until the union or the City of Welland can initiate a legal strike or lockout. The union is citing the need for improvements to layoff protection and city proposed reduction to the short-term disability plan as the major barriers toward a deal at this point.

Negotiating Update #7
CUPE1115 and the City of Welland have completed a fifth day of negotiations with a provincially appointed conciliator. Negotiations are to resume on April 19.
Paid sick days and quality public services are essential for Welland’s COVID-19 recovery
City management needs to act in the interest of the residents of Welland and stop these unnecessary attacks on frontline workers. We are calling on the mayor and council to do what is right for the City of Welland, direct city management to stop their attacks on workers and negotiate a fair contract with CUPE Local 1115.
